Analytics firm Distimo did some research on the Apple App Store and the Google Android Market. There are about 72,000 paid Android Market apps and 211,000 paid Apple App Store apps. Distimo also reported that Apple tends to have bigger application hits.
Distimo said that only two paid apps have been downloaded over 500,000 times on the Google Android Market. However six paid apps on the Apple iPhone app store was downloaded 500,000 times in March and April in the U.S. alone. What this tells us is that Android Market users are less likely to buy apps.
