Hammacher Schlemmer is selling a $199.95 Virtual Keyboard.  This Bluetooth device projects a laser-generated keyboard onto any flat and opaque surface.  This Class II laser device creates a 9 3/4″ wide x 4″ deep keyboard with 3/4″ keys.  The Virtual Keyboard recognizes keystrokes in 3D using an optical sensor that is able to detect finger placement at different areas of the keyboard.  This way it cane distinguish between a finger hovering above the space bar or a number key.  An infrared horizontal plane projected just millimeters above the surface of detects actual contact with the keys.  The Virtual Keyboard can even keep pace of 400 characters per minute.  The rechargeable battery gives up to 2.5 hours of operation with 1.5 hours of charging from an AC using the USB/AC adapter (or three hours from charging by a computer).
