The Titanic 2 Is To Set Sail In 2016

Posted Feb 27, 2013

Millions of people know the story of the Titanic ship that sank in the Atlantic City over 100 years ago as re-enacted by the popular James Cameron film.  Back then people thought that the Titanic was “unsinkable,” but it was unable to withstand crashing into a glacier.  Clive Palmer, an Australia-based millionaire, is having a new ship built called the Titanic 2.  The Titanic 2 is planned to set sail in 2016 from Southampton, England to New York.

Palmer made most of his wealth from the company Mineralogy and for investments in other natural resource companies.  Forbes estimated his net worth at around $795 million last year.  Palmer is having the ship built through the Blue Star Line company.  Palmer had a press conference in New York City earlier this week to show blueprints of the ship.

When the ship sets sail, it will have 850 appointed cabins and will carry 2,600 passengers.  There will be around 900 crew members on board.  The Titanic 2 will be 3 inches longer than the original.  It will have 18 lifeboats so that everyone will be able to escape just in case something goes wrong.

“It will be the most safe cruise ship in the world when it launches,” stated a Blue Line representative.
