Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO:7203) has informed dealers that are carrying Scion vehicles to drop the brand without facing any penalties. However, Toyota has offered a glimpse of two future Scion products for the dealers that decide to stay with the brand. Dealers were told that Scion may not be for everybody because there’s not enough throughput.
Around 1,000 of Toyota’s 1,225 dealers carry the Scion franchise. Toyota launched the Scion brand in 2003 and sales peaked at 173,034 in 2006. Demand for Scion vehicles dropped since then.
Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO:7203) dealers that continue to hold the Scion brand will gain access to new Scion vehicles. It is a possibility that one of the new vehicles could be the FT86 convertible concept that was displayed at the Geneva auto show this year. There is also a possibility that Toyota may sell the Scion FR-S convertible.
