Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO:7203) is recalling about 200,000 hybrid SUVs and 169,000 other vehicles. The hybrid SUV recall is due to the hybrid system’s inverter and the other vehicles because of a problem in the engine assembly process. The Lexus RX400h is one of the vehicles being recalled. Toyota spokeswoman Shino Yamada said that no accidents or injuries have been reported in either of the cases.
In North America, Toyota Motor Corporation (TYO:7203) is recalling 141,000 hybrid vehicles. They are also recalling 37,000 vehicles in Europe and 15,000 vehicles in Japan. The recall affected Lexus RX400h SUVs made between March 2005 and June 2011 and Highlander SUVs made between February 2005 and May 2007.
The hybrid inverter issue could cause heat damage and force the vehicles to stop. Toyota is going to replace a module that inside of the inverter. This will take around 3-4 hours.
Toyota is recalling the Lexus GS350 (made between July 2005 and July 2011), the Lexus IS350 (made between August 2005 and June 2011), and the Lexus IS350C (made between June 2010 and July 2011) due to a glitch in the engine assembly process. In Japan, Toyota is recalling certain Crown and Mark X models. Toyota is going to be replacing the variable-valve timing system that controls, which will take over 6 hours.
It is unknown how much the recall will cost Toyota.
