Twitter has really opened up the floodgates today to announce some solid new features. The new features include brand pages, a redesign of their mobile app and website, and embedded tweets.
Twitter is now allowing brands to create personalized pages that have large header images, a timeline of tweets, advertising space, and a form for visitors to “tweet to” the brand reps. Twitter brands can choose to keep a specific tweet at the top of their profile. Twitter is launching these brand pages with 21 companies including American Express, Best Buy, Bing, Chevrolet, Coca-Cola, Dell , Disney, General Electric, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, JetBlue, Kia, McDonald’s, Nike , PepsiCo, Staples, Verizon Communications Wireless, NYSE Euronext, Heineken, Subway and Paramount Pictures.
Twitter updated their website to support 3 tabs: home, discover, and connect. The home tab shows the standard feed of tweets. Connect will show you replies, favorites, and direct messages. The discover tab will show results that reflect your interests.
The new iPhone app has a new user interface. The new user interface has four tabs at the bottom: Home, Connect, Discover, and Me. The Home, Connect, and Discover features all complement the new designed version of Twitter on the web. When you click on Me, it shows you your profile. My favorite feature on the Me tab is that Twitter shows you people that are similar to me, which includes people that have a lot of mutual followers and who are located near me.
Twitter is also launching a feature for website developers and bloggers to click Embed this Tweet, which is a lot more convenient than using Blackbird Pie.
