Twitter boots TweetDeck back up following hack

Posted Jun 11, 2014

Twitter was hit with a hack today due to a security flaw in the TweetDeck app. Hackers found a “cross-site scripting” (XSS) vulnerability in the system, which forced Twitter to take all of its TweetDeck apps down for a short period.

Twitter said that the error has been fixed and access to TweetDeck is now available again. When the problem was discovered, Twitter issued an update that was supposed to patch it. However, the fix had failed so TweetDeck went down temporarily again.

TweetDeck is used by social media enthusiasts to organize tweets. The flaw enabled hackers to enter computer code into tweets, which would appear in TweetDeck and run nefarious actions or retweet other accounts to spread the bug.
