Earlier we believed that UberMedia had acquired TweetDeck for $30 million, but we stand corrected. Twitter is actually in advanced talks for acquiring TweetDeck for $50 million according to a source with The Wall Street Journal.
TweetDeck is a desktop application that allows you to update your status messages on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Google Buzz, Foursquare etc. TweetDeck has about 15 employees, mostly based in the United Kingdom. A large percentage of Twitter’s users prefer TweetDeck as their default application for sending out status messages.
Twitter and TweetDeck have a financial partnership in place as well. Twitter allows advertisers to post “promoted tweets” which appear in the search results of Twitter. These ads are allowed to appear in TweetDeck as part of a revenue-sharing agreement in place.
