Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) announced its number of monthly active users yesterday at 255 million. Investors were not impressed so Twitter’s stock dropped today. At the close of the market today, Twitter stock is down 8.56% at $38.97 per share. Twitter wants investors to focus on the bigger picture though, which is 1 billion. Twitter can reach 1 billion iOS and Android devices using mobile ad network MoPub.
During the earnings call from yesterday, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said MoPub “reaches over 1 billion iOS and Android users, making it one of, if not the largest in-app mobile ad exchange and the only one at scale to offer publishers native in-app advertising.”
“Marketers are looking for two things, right? They’re looking for scale and engagement,” added Costolo during the call. “And when you think about the scale of already having thousands of in-app publishers deploying MoPub that deliver over 1 billion iOS and Android users, you’ve got scale there.”
The beauty of MoPub is that it gives Twitter a revenue stream that is not dependent on Twitter’s user count. This is important because user growth at Twitter is slowing down.
