Twitter is testing out mute feature in mobile apps

Posted May 3, 2014

Twitter is testing out one of the most request features for its mobile apps. Some Twitter iOS and Android users want an option to mute accounts that they follow, which would prevent another user’s tweets and retweets from appearing in their timeline. The user will remain muted until you manually unmutes them. Muting is one of the most popular features in Tweetdeck.

Tweetdeck is a Twitter client that the company acquired in 2011. Sometimes you feel pressured to follow someone for work or social reasons even though these tweets bore you.

Sometimes people are even live-tweeting an event that you do not care about and this spams your news feed. Some people even are constantly checking into Foursquare everywhere they go and this fills up your Twitter timeline too. This is why the mute button may be a welcomed feature to Twitter.
