Twitter announced in a blog post that they now have over 145 million registered users. There are also 300,000 registered applications in the Twitter ecosystem now too. These applications use OAuth for support. Twitter switched from basic authentication to OAuth several days ago and that means several applications were left behind.
Ever since the Twitter Chirp conference last April, the number of registered applications tripled. The number of mobile Twitter users increased 62% this past April. About 16% of all new users on Twitter start from the mobile service. Around 46% of all Twitter users have used the service on a mobile service.
Around 78% of Twitter users interact through Twitter.com – but this number still includes users that use more than one external application. m.twitter.com is the second most used Twitter interface at about 14%. Twitter for iPhone and SMS are at about 8%.
