Uber Ending Taxi Service In New York

You may know Uber as the company that lets users summon a car through a mobile application to take them where they want in major cities.  Some of these cars include black town cars and taxis.  However the UberTaxi service will be ending in New York.

Around 160 taxi drivers in New York participated in the beta test.  The company said that some of the top UberTaxi drivers made $168 in additional fares in one day.  During the biggest week for one of the drivers, they made $586 in additional fares using the app.

Uber is ending the taxi beta service because not enough taxis were available.  Since there was a small number of taxis, it was difficult for users of the app to summon a cab to take them where they want to go.

Uber said that the Taxi and Limousine Commission created obstacles and roadblocks to prevent the company from growing.  There are still town car services available through Uber in New York though.  Uber said that they will plan on trying their taxi hailing service through other “innovation-friendly cities” like Boston and Toronto.
