Uber, the online car-summoning service, has made it clear that prices will increase tonight due to New Year’s celebrations. The higher prices are expected to kick in after 8PM.
“This New Year’s Eve we’ll have a record number of cars on the road ready to get you where you want to go,” said Uber in a blog post. “But, that doesn’t change one simple fact: on NYE, everyone wants to move around the city at exactly the same time! You can avoid the peaks of surge pricing with good timing when you travel.”

Uber prices will shift throughout the night. The price will be normal before 8PM. Prices will increase after 8PM. And the most expensive part of the night will be between 12:15AM and 2:30AM. By around 3AM, prices will be dropped again back to normal.

Uber will notify riders when the price will start to surge. The price could be twice as much or higher. Riders will be required to confirm that they are aware of the higher prices. The rides can use a “fare quote” to estimate the cost of the journey before hailing a pick-up. Users can split fares with friends.
