Samsung partners with University of California, San Francisco for UCSF-Samsung Digital Health Innovation Lab

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (KRX:005930) has announced a joint project with medical professionals at University of California, San Francisco. Samsung and UCSF are going to test out medical sensors and related technology at the new UCSF-Samsung Digital Health Innovation Lab. The financial terms of the deal have been undisclosed.

Young Sohn, President and CSO of Device Solutions at Samsung, is overseeing the university partnership. Samsung is interested in building health-related products, but does not want to deep-dive into equipment that would require government approvals.

Evaluations by the U.S. FDA comes into play when the devices are used to make medical diagnoses and decisions on treatments. The lab will focus on consumer-oriented technology that gives people information related to keeping them well
