Upworthy is a social media website that has a goal to make important things go viral.  The company has raised $8 million in Series A funding led by Spark Capital.  Other investors that participated in this round include Catamount Ventures, Uprising, and the Knight Foundation.

Upworthy plans to use the funding to build more revenue streams through their editorial content.  The company will also be expanding their coverage of certain segments like health and parenting.

Despite the editorial expansion, the company plans on maintaining their signature single stream layout.

“Our mission here has always been to draw attention to stuff that really matters using irresistible social media,” stated Upworthy in a blog post.
