Urban Outfitters Says All Sales Will Now Be Done On Apple Products Instead Of Cash Registers

Urban Outfitters had recently had their first annual analyst day.  The company’s presentation is available online.  Urban Outfitters CIO Calvin Hollinger took some time to talk about the future of their point-of-sales systems in retail as well.  He said that going forward the company will have all Apple devices for their stores.  Cash registers will be replaced with an iPad on a swivel.

“Two or three weeks ago, we placed our very last register order.  Once we make sure this iPad works, all stores will be equipped with iPod Touches and iPads,” said Hollinger.

iPads cost around one-fifth as a cash register.  He also said that the iPad can be used for the customer to view content, put in personal information, and use as a gift registry, added Hollinger.
