UrbanSitter Raises $6 Million For Parents and Babysitters To Connect

Posted Oct 15, 2012

UrbanSitter is an online service for parents and babysitters to connect.  The company has raised $6 million in Series A funding led by Canaan Partners.  First Round Capital, Menlo Ventures, Rustic Canyon Partners, and several angels are participating.  UrbanSitter uses the power of social recommendations to connect the parents with the babysitters.

UrbanSitter uses Facebook Connect so that parents can view the babysitters that their friends already know and recommend.  After you sign up on UrbanSitter, you can connect your Facebook account, and view babysitters known through their friends or affiliations like schools, sports teams, and parent groups.

UrbanSitter has a mobile app that lets parents and babysitters connect.  Jobs can be booked from anywhere using the mobile app too.  UrbanSitter launched in San Francisco in September 2011.  The company increased the number of sitter bookings at an average rate of 35% per month.

UrbanSitter is available in a dozen cities including New York, L.A., Boston, Chicago, Seattle, and Denver.  UrbanSitter launched an iOS app that allows parents to search and book babysitters on the go.

UrbanSitter will be using the new round of funding for product development to push the mobile efforts further and expand into new markets.
