Valve releases SteamOS, experienced Linux users encouraged to use it

Posted Dec 14, 2013

Valve has released SteamOS in beta. The company has also shipped out prototype Steam Machines to 300 beta testers. SteamOS is based on Linux Debian 7.1. The operating system is used for playing PC games on TV. The operating system has the ability to stream games running on a computer elsewhere in your home so that they can be played on TV. And of course, the operating system supports native SteamOS games. Since SteamOS is in beta, Valve recommends people without Linux experience to wait until a more advanced SteamOS is released next year. You can download SteamOS from this link (960MB zip file).
