Verizon Adds 677K New Subscribers In Q1 2013

Verizon Wireless has announced their financial results for Q1 2013.  Verizon, the largest wireless carrier in the United States, announced that they added 677,000 new postpaid subscribers between January 1st and March 31st, which is up 35% year-over-year.  The company now has 98.9 million retail customers total (prepaid and postpaid).  The company revealed total revenues at $24.9 billion for the quarter, which is a 4.2% increase year-over-year.

Verizon said that around 30% of their accounts are on the “share everything” plan that launched last year.  Around 7.2 million smartphones were activated for the quarter.  Of that 7.2 million, 5.9 million were designed to run on Verizon’s LTE network. Now 61% of Verizon’s postpaid subscribers have smartphones, up from 58% in the last quarter.

The company has activated a total of four million iPhones and around half were the iPhone 5, according to TheVerge.  This is over 55% of all smartphone activations for the quarter.  One year ago, Verizon reported that they activated 3.2 million iPhones.
