“Veronica Mars” Movie Kickstarter Campaign Hit $2 Million In 10 Hours

Posted Mar 14, 2013

Veronica Mars was a TV series that premiered in September 2004 and was created by Rob Thomas.  The show ended on May 22, 2007 after a season on The CW Television network.  The show starred actress Kristen Bell and it was about a student that progressed from high school  to college while working as a private investigator mentored by her detective father.  Ever since the show was cut, Thomas has been wanting to create a movie around the series so he turned to crowd-funding platform Kickstarter.  The goal was to raise $2 million and they ended up getting that goal in only 10 hours of going live on Kickstarter, which is a new record for the crowd-funding platform.

Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell met with Warner Brothers and they agreed to allow them to take a shot at making the movie.  Warner said that if they were able to gain enough fan interest to consider a movie, then they would get on board.  Thomas now has to make sure that there isn’t a scheduling conflict to deal with for all of the cast.

People that donated $10 or more will get a PDF of the shooting script on the day of the movie’s release.  They will also receive regular updates and behind-the-scenes throughout the fundraising.  The people that donated $50 or more would receive a physical DVD of the movie that will include a documentary on the making of the movie.  Someone that donates $10,000 or more would receive a speaking role in the movie and he or she would say “Your check, sir.”
