“Wish I Was Here” is a movie that was put together by brothers Zach and Adam Braff. You may know Zach Braff from his role in the TV show “Scrubs.” The last time that Zach Braff directed a movie was in 2004 and it was called “Garden State.” That movie was co-written by Zach’s brother Adam. Zach Braff plays a father and struggling actor named Aidan Bloom. The film also stars Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”), Kate Hudson, Mandy Patinkin and Donald Faison (“Scrubs” and “The Exes”).
Zach Braff turned to Kickstarter last April to raise funding from individual donators to get this movie off the ground. He was encouraged by the success of the “Veronica Mars” film success on Kickstarter. The incentives that he offered for larger donations included movie T-shirts, tickets to advanced screenings, access to an online screening, signed DVDs, early access to the movie soundtrack, production diaries, and screenplays.
The movie received $3,105,473 from 46,520 backers. The movie was screened at the beginning of the year at Sundance. It will be arriving in theaters on July 25th.
