Vimeo is a video sharing website that is known for hosting crisp HD video. The company has acquired Echograph, a popular iPhone and iPad app developed by Clear-Media. Echograph lets you build creative videos that look like animated GIFs. After the acquisition is completed, Vimeo will most likely make the $2.99 Echograph app free. The Echograph team will be reporting to Vimeo president Dae Mellencamp. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Nick Alt will go from becoming Clear-Media CEO to Vimeo VP of Mobile. He will head up the development across all platforms. “We chose Echograph because it helps people easily create beautiful high quality video content,” stated Vimeo CEO Kerry Trainor. “That, with Nick’s proven track record of building innovative video apps made it a perfect fit for Vimeo.”
“Vimeo to me is the most innovative video platform that empowers its users to share quality content,” added Echograph creator Nick Alt . “I’m very excited for our teams to come together to take Echograph to the next level and develop a new fleet of amazing mobile video apps.” Vimeo has around 15 million users and they hit around 93 million unique visitors per month. Vimeo was founded in 2004 and is a subsidiary of IAC in New York City.
