Vine Usage Plummets After Instagram Adds Video Sharing

Posted Jun 28, 2013

Topsy, a social media analytics company, is reporting that Twitter Vine usage has severely dropped since Instagramintroduced videos.  Within 24 hours of introducing the service, Instagram hit 5 million videos shared.

According to MarketingLand, Topsy showed that there were almost 2.5 million Vine videos shared on June 19th.  On the 20th, just a bit over 1.5 million videos were shared when Instagram videos were introduced.  That is a drop of almost 40%.  Instagram currently has 130 million users.

Vine video sharing has continuously dropped over the past week ever.  Two days ago, Vine saw 900,000 less videos shared on Twitter, which is a 80% drop from the three million links that was shared on June 15th.

I am expecting Instagram videos to continuously grow just like their user base. Being a part of the Facebook ecosystem will only help them out a lot more.
