Scientists in the U.K. are currently working on a virtual helmet that will allow people to use all five senses to make the body feel like it is actually on a safari. An example of one of the safari locations is the Kenya Masai Mara. The device is expected to be done in about 3-5 years.
Professor Alan Chalmers from Warwick University is spearheading the smell sense for the device. “The idea is to produce a portable virtual reality device that you can use in the comfort of your own home,” stated Chalmers. “This will be a huge step forward in comparison to today’s virtual reality devices. Combining the use of all five senses will make the experience feel totally real – it will be unlike anything previously available.”
The device will probably cost about £1,500 ($2,116).
