Volkswagen AG (ETR:VOW) has announced that they will be introducing a new clean diesel engine in 2014. The new engine is called the EA288 and it will debut in the 2015 Beetle, Golf, Jetta, and Passat during the second half of 2014. The new diesel engine ail replace current VW and Audi 2.0-liter diesel engines.
The new Volkswagen AG (ETR:VOW) 2.0 four-cylinder engine will be turbocharged and uses Bosch’s common-rail technology. It can deliver 150 horsepower and 233 pound feet of torque.
The new engine will use a complex exhaust gas recirculation system and an integrated water-cooled intercooler / EGR valve with intake manifold. This will improve the throttle response. And it will also be able to minimize friction while optimizing fuel economy.
