Voxy Raises $8.5 Million

Voxy is a company that around 2.5 million people use to help improve their English language skills.  According to VentureBeat, the company has raised $8.5 million in funding to market their tools for emerging markets.  Voxy’s web and mobile applications has lessons and games that helps people learn English.

Voxy is rated as the number one education iTunes app in 23 countries.  Pearson led the Series B round of funding.  Rethink Education also participated in this round.

Pearson will own a minority stake in Voxy.  Pearson will be incorporating the language learning technology into their suite of apps and digital services.  Voxy chief executive officer Paul Gollash said that they will be able to benefit from Pearson’s global scale and distribution network.

Pearson has been investing in and acquiring many companies.  Pearson has acquired Learning Catalytics, ExamDesign, EmbanetCompass, and Schoolnet recently.  They also acquired a stake in Nook.
