In downtown Minneapolis, there is a restaurant called The News Room. In this restaurant, the walls are painted with large versions of newspapers that were published years ago, highlighting some of the major events that have occurred in the world. People love seeing how the times have changed. This is where Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) comes in.
Google aims to digitize billions of newspaper pages. Google announced today that they have partnered with several newspaper publishers to digitize articles from the past. I did a search of my hometown, Ann Arbor for stories that occurred before 1890. Here are the results.
Google is working with printing companies such as The New York Times, Washington Post, and the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph. The Quebec printing company is the oldest in North America. They have been printing stories over the last 244 years. Google has also partnered with ProQuest and Heritage.
