Warren Buffett Donates $2 Billion In Stock To The Gates Foundation

Warren Buffett has made a donation of $2 billion to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation through his investment company Berkshire Hathaway.  Buffett donated around 17,458,431 in class B shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock, which is trading at around $115 per share today.

Buffett also donated 1,745,843 shares (worth about $200 million) to the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation.  The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation is named after his late wife.

Berkshire Hathaway donated 1,222,085 shares (worth $140 million) to these three foundations: Howard G. Buffett (named after his son) along with the NoVo and Sherwood Foundations.  Warren Buffett made a pledge to donate annual contributions to five charitable foundations.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is named after Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda Gates.  The Foundation is known for pursuing the end of global poverty.
