Posted Sep 13, 2013

Western Digital Corp (NASDAQ:WDC) has announced that they have completed the acquisition of sTec Inc.  sTec is known for building enterprise solid-state drives (SSDs).  sTec is going to be integrated into Western Digital subsidiary HGST.  The acquisition will help propel Western Digital further into the enterprise SSD market.

“We are excited to welcome the sTec team to HGST, where they will play a key role in our ongoing growth,” stated HGST president Mike Cordano. “sTec has a strong technology capability and foundational intellectual property that will support our initiative to deliver intelligent storage devices tailored to meet the evolving needs of today’s datacenter customer.”

This acquisition is coming on the heals of HGST’s recent purchase of an SSD caching software company called VeloBit.

HGST (used to be known as Hitachi Global Storage Technologies or Hitachi GST) is a company owned by Western Digital that develops advanced hard disk drives and enterprise SSDs.  The company also builds external storage solutions and services.
