Wikia Raises $10.8 Million In Series C

Wikia is a web-hosting service for wikis to host all types of content.  It is especially popular for gamers.  Wikia has raised over $10.8 million in Series C funding.  The financing was led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP).  Existing investors that participated in this round include Bessemer Ventures and

Wikia is already profitable and they will main “profitable for years” according to the CEO.  They plan to use the funding to support their mobile and video efforts.  Wikia’s total funding is now at $25 million.

Wikia was founded by Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley.  Wikia is free for readers and editors and they make money through advertising.

Wikia supports around 250,000 communities and they have 20 million pages of user-generated content.  It also has 100,000 videos and 14 million photos.  This month Wikia’s global traffic was at around 70 million unique visitors and 1 billion page views.
