Windows 8 App Store Hits 20,000 Apps and 18,000 Are Free

The Windows Store built into Windows 8 has surpassed 20,000 apps.  Win App Update tracks the total number of apps that are in the app store built into Windows 8.  The milestone was posted on Thursday that the 20,000 app count likely happened around Tuesday.

Not all of the apps are available in all regions and languages and your market could have much less applications than the 20,000 count.  Win App Update also pointed out that of the 20,000 apps around 18,000 are free.  Around 13,000 of those are available in the United States and 14,000 are in Canada.  There are 11,000 in the U.K.

Around 7,715 apps were added in the last 17 days.  The Windows 8 app store is growing very rapidly and it is uncertain whether some indie developers have been able to capitalize on it yet.
