Microsoft Shutting Down Windows Live Mesh

Posted Dec 14, 2012

Microsoft has announced that they are shutting down Windows Live Mesh, which is the company’s desktop and file sharing service that is used by around 25,000 people.  Microsoft decided that this is not a high enough number of users to keep the service going.  If you are currently a Windows Live Mesh user, you will have up until February 13, 2013 to access the service.  Users are being encouraged to switch over to SkyDrive and the Remote Desktop Connection.  Microsoft has been working on ensuring that Live Mesh’s functions are aligned with SkyDrive capabilities.  SkyDrive is believed to be the “world’s most available and versatile cloud storage service.”  SkyDrive works on Windows, Windows Phone, Android, iPhone, iPad, and the Xbox 360 gaming console.
