Posted Oct 14, 2013

Microsoft has announced today that Windows Phone 8 will have support for 1080p as part of the Windows Phone 8 Update 3. This was previously known as General Distribution Release 3. The third release has several other minor tweaks.

Windows Phone 8 Update 3 (8.0.10512) was designed for upcoming devices.  Microsoft is adding a third column of Live Tiles to the Windows Phone 8 Star Screen on 1080p displays to support larger displays.  You will also be able to lock the rotation of your screen.

Microsoft added a driving mode so that you can send automatic responses to calls and texts when in the car.  Windows Phone will let you tap on an “X” to close an app that is in the background.  The update is going to be shipped on new devices and will arrive for future devices soon.
