Xiaomi is a Chinese device conglomerate that launched a new smartphone called the Mi-3 last month. The company also launched a 47-inch 3D smart TV. When the Mi-3 phones went for sale at 12PM today, over 100,000 units were sold in 86 seconds. The 16GB Mi-3 retails for CNY1999 ($327) and the 64GB sells for CNY2499 ($410).
Xiaomi’s TV set also did very well. The first 3,000 TVs that were posted on their website sold out in about 2 minutes (actually 1 minute and 58 seconds or 118 seconds).
Xiaomi confirmed this news on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter followed by an announcement on Twitter itself.
This record beats the company’s previous record of the Hongmi. Around 100,000 Hongmi phones were sold in 90 seconds. There’s a chance that scalpers are buying up these phones in order to make a profit.
Xiaomi is raising their sales target this year to 20 million smartphones, which is up from 15 million smartphones.
