Report: Yahoo! is partnering with Celltick on an Android “Start” product

Posted Jan 8, 2014

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) is partnering with a mobile commerce company called Celltick. Celltick is working with Yahoo! to create a branded “Start” screen for Android devices.

Start is an Android interface that gives people quick access to relevant features and information. Yahoo! would build instant access to services like Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Weather, the newly announced Yahoo! News Digest, and Flickr. Start would learn from the user’s behavior and show what users prefer most on their device.

You may remember that Facebook implemented similar features through Facebook Home. Yahoo! should tread cautiously though. Smartphones that came with Facebook Home as the default did not sell very well.
