Marissa Mayer has been trying to recruit Katie Stanton, the head of international markets at Twitter to work on the media side of Yahoo! according to sources with AllThingsD. Mayer was Stanton’s boss once already at Google when she worked as the product management leader in the launch of Google Finance. Stanton was one of the drivers of Yahoo! Finance between 1999 and 2002.
Stanton would be replacing Ross Levinsohn, who left shortly after Mayer was made CEO. At Twitter, Stanton is focused on raising the company’s profile in international markets. Stanton joined Twitter after working at the State Department in Washington D.C.
Stanton was one of the drivers of the $32 million in mobile donations for victims in Haiti following the earthquake. Stanton was also the first director of citizen participation at The White House. She had convinced the Obama administration to start tweeting from @whitehouse.
