Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has acquired free conference calling company Rondee for an undisclosed amount. Founded 6 years ago, Rondee is going to be shutting down within the next month. The Rondee team is joining Yahoo!’s small business team. New users can sign up for the service and calls can be scheduled until July 12th.
Data from past calls will be accessible to Rondee users until August 12, 2013. Users will be transitioned to Instant Conference.
“We?ve appreciated your support. To minimize the inconvenience to you, we have arranged for your Login ID and Rondee On Demand PINs to work with Instant Conference, a highly reputable conference calling service. Be sure to check your email for details,” said the company in a statement.
Rondee offered free conference call recording, e-mail reminders, call archiving, recurring conference call appointments, and a way to personalize PIN codes. It is unclear what Yahoo! plans to do with the conference call service. My guess is that Yahoo! Mail will have a VoIP service added soon just like Google Talk does.
This is the second acquisition that Yahoo! made in a day. Yahoo! acquired GhostBird Software yesterday. Yahoo! shut down GhostBird’s photo apps following the acquisition.
