Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) has acquired a mobile marketing company called Sparq. All of Sparq’s team will be joining Yahoo! The terms of the acquisition were undisclosed.
Sparq raised a total of $1.7 million in the last few rounds of funding. Sparq was used for linking from a specific website or e-mail to an exact spot in an app rather than the mobile app’s landing page. For example, Catalog Spreed created an iPad app with catalogs from over 350 retailers and Sparq was used to link to specific items in catalogs from the e-mails, according to BusinessInsider.
Yahoo! will be shutting down Sparq immediately, which indicates that the company was mostly interested in the talent behind the startup rather than the brand. Based in Seattle, Sparq has around a dozen employees. Sparq CEO Jesse Chor used to work as a developer at Expedia.
