Yahoo! Japan is acquiring mobile network operator eAccess from SoftBank Corporation for 324 billion yen ($3.17 billion). Yahoo! Japan is planning to launch its own mobile Internet service. SoftBank owns 42.6% of Yahoo! Japan.
Yahoo! Japan said that the new Y!mobile service is aiming for more than 20 million users and would use a simple pricing structure for attracting new customers. The acquisition is expected to happen on June 2nd.
This deal is going to immediately follow eAccess merged with wireless provider company Willcom, which is another SoftBank subsidiary.
