Posted Nov 18, 2013

Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer wrote a blog post saying that the company will be encrypting e-mail by default.  Mayer also said that encryption will be applied across all Yahoo! products by the end of Q1 2014.  Mayer wrote three measures to protect user data:

– Encrypt all information that moves between our data centers by the end of Q1 2014;
– Offer users an option to encrypt all data flow to/from Yahoo by the end of Q1 2014;
– Work closely with our international Mail partners to ensure that Yahoo co-branded Mail accounts are https-enabled.?

There has been several months over the last six months that the U.S. government secretly accessed user data without the knowledge of tech companies including Yahoo!  Yahoo! said that they have never given access to their data centers to the NSA or any other government agency.
