Yammer is an enterprise social network and is a part of Microsoft Office. Yammer has announced record growth in 2012 and is accelerating their momentum following the Microsoft acquisition. The company’s full year 2012 sales nearly tripled year-over-year (ended January 31, 2013). The company’s fourth quarter sales quadrupled year-over-year. The number of paying customers increased 165% in 2012 and they have surpassed 7 million registered users.
“Yammer experienced banner growth in 2012 and grew particularly fast in the fourth quarter. Our momentum is definitely accelerating following the Microsoft acquisition,” stated Yammer co-founder and Microsoft Office Division corporate VP David Sacks. “The power of the freemium model and the validation that Microsoft brings to Enterprise Social Networking is helping drive mainstream adoption among leading organizations. Enterprise Social Networking is becoming the cornerstone of workplace collaboration for its ability to empower people and drive employee engagement, team collaboration and business agility.”
Yammer added around 290 new paying customers in the fourth quarter including SABMiller, TGIFriday’s, DWF LLP, and Trek Bicycle Corp. New customers range from financial and professional services between the financial and healthcare industries including one of the largest retailers in the world.
Yammer will be implementing SkyDrive Pro for file storage. Yammer is also enhancing the ability to preview and edit files directly within Yammer feeds using Office Web Apps. These features are expected to arrive this summer.
