YouTube: 40% Of Traffic Is Now Mobile

Yesterday Google announced their financial results for Q3 and in part of the call, the company talked about YouTube’s traffic is now 40% mobile compared to 25% last year.  Two years ago, YouTube’s traffic was only 6% mobile.  The YouTube team has been investing heavily on delivering a seamless experience on the web and Android.


When Apple released iOS 6, Google was able to build an improved separate YouTube iOS app.  YouTube formed their mobile team in 2007 and they started to transcoded all videos so that it can be served on mobile formats.

In the newest update of the YouTube app on iOS and Android.  Users can move the video they are watching to a smaller screen on the bottom-right while they continue to search and view other channels.
