YouTube Denies Taking The NASCAR Daytona Speedway Crash Video

Posted Feb 24, 2013

Yesterday NASCAR sent a Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice to YouTube asking them to take down a video of a crash that took place at the Daytona Speedway.  Around 28 people were injured after some of the debris from a 10-car accident was sent into the crowd.  YouTube removed the video at first, but then restored it based on grounds that copyright was not violated.  NASCAR had an interest in the event not being publicized to this extent.

?Our partners and users do not have the right to take down videos from YouTube unless they contain content which is copyright infringing, which is why we have reinstated the videos,? said YouTube in a statement.  NASCAR said that the video was blocked to respect the families of someone that was injured in the crash.
