YouTube, the largest video website in the world, has hit one billion monthly unique visitors. Facebook hit the same milestone around October 2012. It took around 8 years for Facebook and YouTube to hit the one billion unique users per month milestone. “Nearly one out of every two people on the Internet visits YouTube. Our monthly viewership is the equivalent of roughly ten Super Bowl audiences. If YouTube were a country, we?d be the third largest in the world after China and India,” said YouTube on their blog.
YouTube said that their growth is largely powered by Generation C and mobile devices. Generation C is the group of people that consume content “where and when they want.” Generation C watches YouTube on all types of screens and switches between devices. They are also curators that find content that is important to them. Generation C watches just as much YouTube content on smartphones as they do on their desktops. About 67% of Generation C people watch YouTube on two devices or more compared to 53% of the general population.
“From the aspiring filmmaker in his basement and the next great pop musician, to the fans all around the world who tune in, subscribe and share their favorite videos with the planet, thank you for making YouTube what it is today. You have truly created something special,” added YouTube on their blog.
