Elon Musk (Tesla Motors/SpaceX CEO), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO), and Ashton Kutcher (actor/investor) have invested $40 million into artificial-intelligence company Vicarious. Vicarious has a goal of replicating the neocortex, which is part of the brain that controls the body, understands language, and can perform math functions.

If you are able to replicate this functionality in a computer, it thinks like a person except eating and sleeping is not necessary. Facebook and Tesla Motors both use artificial intelligence (AI) for its products. Facebook uses artificial intelligence for facial recognition around its tagging feature.

Tesla Motors has an interest in autonomous vehicles in the future, which would rely on AI. Zuckerberg’s investment in Vicarious was through his personal wealth though. Vicarious has a goal of making a computer that could learn how to cure diseases and create renewable energy. Some of Vicarious’ previous investors include Peter Thiel and Dustin Moskovitz. The funding from Kutcher was through his investment firm A-Grade Investments.
