Zynga Buys Social Casino Gaming Company Spooky Cool Labs

Earlier this month, Zynga announced that they are laying off 18% of their staff, but this is not stopping them from acquiring other companies.  Zynga has bought Chicago-based Spooky Cool Labs, a 40-person team that focuses on real-money gaming.

Spooky Cool Labs is known for the talent behind the company.  Some of their executives have worked at real money gaming at companies like Aristocrat, WMS Gaming, and International Game Technology (IGT).

Spooky Cool is also working on non-casino games like The Wizard Of Oz and a social game where you build a city.  The Spooky Cool Labs is going to stay in Chicago.  The Chicago team will fork closely with the San Francisco based social casino team.

?We have a legacy in social casino franchises with Zynga Poker, and we believe that free-to-play social casino games for the Web and on mobile have the potential to reach and connect a much broader audience,? stated Zynga chief revenue officer Barry Cottle in a blog post.  ?Spooky Cool Labs is the right team to help us bring the feeling of being on a casino floor and the thrill of hitting a big jackpot right to players wherever they play,?

Zynga recently launched two of their first real-money games in the United Kingdom, ZyngaPlusPoker and ZyngaPlusCasino.
