Display
Both devices have a 12.9-inch Liquid Retina Display with ProMotion technology and True Tone. But the iPad Pro 5 has the XDR version of the Liquid Retina display, meaning that it supports 1000 nits of max full screen and 1600 nits peak (HDR content only) due to a mini-LED backlit display setup. The iPad Pro 4 has an LED-backlit display, which is also solid – but the iPad Pro 5 has a slightly better display.
Chipset
The Apple iPad Pro 4 has an A12Z Bionic chip with Neural Engine. And the Apple iPad Pro 5 has an M1 chip with a next-generation Neural Engine, powered by an 8-core CPU and 8-core graphics. The iPad Pro 5 either comes with 8GB RAM or 16GB RAM.

Both the iPad Pro 4 and iPad Pro 5 have a two-camera system with a 12-megapixel wide and a 10-megapixel Ultra Wide camera. The Wide cameras on both devices have a ƒ/1.8 aperture and the Ultra Wide Cameras on both devices have an ƒ/2.4 aperture. The cameras on both devices also have 2x optical zoom out, digital zoom up to 5x, and a brighter True Tone flash. The iPad 5 has a Smart HDR 3 feature whereas the iPad Pro 4 has the original Smart HDR feature.
In terms of video, both have 4K video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps and 1080p HD video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps. The iPad Pro 5 has an extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps, but the iPad Pro 4 does not have that feature.
Front Camera
The iPad Pro 5 has a more sophisticated front-facing camera than the iPad Pro 4. The front camera on the iPad Pro 5 is 12-megapixel whereas the iPad Pro 5 front camera has a 7-megapixel camera.
Plus the front camera on the iPad Pro 5 has an ƒ/2.4 aperture compared to the ƒ/2.2 aperture on the iPad Pro 4 front camera. Plus the front camera on the iPad Pro 5 has a 2x zoom out and the Center Stage feature. Both devices have Retina Flash, Portrait mode, Portrait Lighting (with 6 effects), cinematic video stabilization, and 1080p HD video recording at 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps. The front camera on the iPad Pro 5 also has an extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps.
