Apple recently released Apple iOS 13 and it has a number of useful features. What are the best iOS 13 features? Here is an overview of the best iOS 13 features you should know about:

1.) Add Attachments To Calendar

iOS 13 now supports the ability to add attachments to events in Calendar.

2.) AirPods Enhancements

The Apple AirPods have a couple of improvements with iOS 13. Now Siri can read incoming notifications from your messaging apps to your second-generation AirPods when you are not able to reach for your phone. And you can pair two sets of AirPods to one iPhone so you can enjoy the same song or movie with a friend.

3.) Apple Arcade App

Apple has launched a new game subscription service with over 100 amazing new games. And it does not have ads or additional purchases. With a single subscription, it allows you to download and play any Apple Arcade game from the App Store. Games will be added regularly. And you can play Apple Arcade games across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. Plus every game is playable offline.

4.) Apple Keyboard Gets QuickPath

The QuickType keyboard now features QuickPath so you can swipe your finger from one letter to the next in order to enter a word without removing your finger from the keyboard. And you can swipe or tap to type interchangeably so you are able to choose what is more convenient even if you are mid-sentence. And alternate word options will appear in the predictive bar so you can choose a different option.

5.) Augmented Reality Advancements

Apple added support for Motion Capture. Motion Capture allows developers to integrate people’s movement into their apps.

There is also a people occlusion feature. This makes AR content appear naturally in front of or behind people, enabling more immersive AR experiences and green screen-style applications.

6.) Better Controls Over Apps

iOS 13 features app location permissions so you can control the location data that you pass to apps with fine-grained controls. And you can choose to grant an app access to your location once or anytime you use it.

Plus you will start receiving notifications when an app is using your location in the background so you can decide whether to update your permission.

And iOS 13 also allows you to control whether you share your location when you share a photo.

7.) CarPlay Dashboard Improved

There is an all-new view in Apple CarPlay with a single place to keep track of maps, audio controls, and smart Siri suggestions. You will immediately notice that the CarPlay Home screen has been refreshed with a modern look that has rounded corners, new table views, and a whole new status bar.

The Calendar app gives you a quick view of the day while you’re on the go. All you have to do is tap to get directions or dial in to a meeting.

Apple Music has been improved so it is easier to discover new music. And album art will appear in the Now Playing section.

Plus there are now independent app views so an app open on the iPhone does not affect what is open on the CarPlay screens so passengers are able to pick a song on the device while the driver can keep looking at Maps.

8.) Camera App Improvements

Apple made a few improvements to the Camera app. For example, you can adjust the Portrait Lighting intensity by moving the light closer to your subject. This way you can smooth skin and sharpen eyes. Or you can decrease light intensity by moving it away from the subject for more refined looks.

Apple added a new Portrait Lighting effect called High-Key Mono. The High-Key Mono effect adds a classic look with a monochromatic subject on a white background.

9.) Contacts App Gets More Relationship Labels

The Contacts app now has hundreds of new relationship labels to help users manage their growing contacts lists. And you can create a Memoji for yourself and contacts within the Contacts app.

10.) Customize Fonts

Now you will be able to install custom fonts and use it in your favorite apps. The installed Fonts can be found in the Settings. And you can download fonts from the App Store.

The Dark Mode feature makes the display easier on the eyes. The Dark Mode option gives iOS and apps a dark color scheme, which works very well in low-light environments and does not disturb the people around you. You can toggle Dark Mode on and off by going to Settings > Display & Brightness > Appearance > Light or Dark.

You can also add the ability to control Dark Mode in Control Center. Or you can schedule Dark Mode based on sunrise or sunset. There are also new wallpapers optimized for Dark Mode that automatically changes when you switch between light and dark.

12.) Files App Gains New Features

The Files app now has rich metadata so you are able to see the details for each file as you browse. There is a new downloads folder that gives you a central place to access your web downloads and attachments from Safari and Mail. There is external drive support so you can access files on a USB drive, SD card, or hard drive.

Plus the Files app now has iCloud Drive folder sharing so you can share folders with friends, family, and colleagues in iCloud Drive.

And there is local storage features with the ability to create folders on the local drive and you can add your favorite files. Tapping on a zip file expands it into a folder and access the files.

13.) Find My App

The Find My iPhone and Find My Friends app have been combined into a single and easy-to-use app. And now you can locate a missing device even if it’s not connected to Wi‑Fi or cellular using crowd‑sourced location. After you mark your device as missing, it will utilize the Bluetooth of another Apple user’s device nearby to detect the location. This feature is completely anonymous and encrypted end‑to‑end so everyone’s privacy is protected.

14.) Game Controllers

With iOS 13, you will be able to use your PlayStation 4 game controller or the Xbox Wireless Controller via Bluetooth on your iPhone.

The Health app has been updated with a number of features. Here is an overview of some of the notable new Health app features:

– Cycle Tracking – You can track important data about your menstrual cycle. With this feature you can log your period such as flow level and symptoms like cramps and headaches. And you can log key fertility metrics like basal body temperature and ovulation test results.

– Period Prediction – You can view a prediction for when your period is likely to begin and each cycle the next 3 cycles.

– Fertile Window Prediction – You can view a prediction for when your fertile window is likely to begin and end each cycle for the next 3 cycles.

– Period Notifications – You can receive notifications to remind you to log your period and let you know when your next period is approaching.

– Cycle History And Stats – You can use the Health app to view your entire cycle based on the logged period, symptoms, fertile window, and length. And there are stats that show you the date of the last menstrual period, the typical period length, the period length variation, the typical cycle length, and the cycle length variation.

– Oral Health – This feature allows you to track your toothbrushing time.

16.) HomeKit Improvements

Now HomeKit-enabled cameras have support for detecting and recording specific activity like people, animals, and vehicles. And these recordings are stored securely in iCloud.

Plus HomeKit-enabled routers bring an extra layer of security to your smart home. And you can use the Home app to control which services your HomeKIt accessories can communicate within your network and on the Internet.

Plus Siri Shortcuts have been added to automations. And HomePod and AirPlay 2-enabled speakers can now access songs, playlists, and radio stations with Apple Music.

17.) HomePod Enhancements

Siri is able to learn and recognize the voices of family members using HomePod so that everyone has a personalized experience. And you can hand off music, podcasts, and phone calls to HomePod so you can continue listening when you arrive at home.

18.) Improvements In Photos And Videos

There is a new Photos tab that allows you to browse your photo library with various levels of curation so that it is easier to find, relive, and share your photos and videos. This allows you to view everything in All Photos, focus on unique photos in Days, surface moments in Months, and rediscover the highlights in Years.

In the Photos tab, muted Live Photos and videos will begin playing as you scroll. And photo previews are larger in Days, Months, and Years. Plus Apple is removing duplicate photos, screenshots, documents, and receipts so you just see the best shots.

There is a birthday mode in Photos, which will highlight photos of people on their birthday. Birthdays have to be assigned to your contacts for this feature to work.

To better enhance your photos, you can control the intensity of any filter. This enables you to really fine-tune the photos. And you can increase or decrease Enhance with adjustments including Exposure, Brilliance, Highlights, Shadows, Contrast, Brightness, Black Point, Saturation, and Vibrance.

There is video editing support with adjustments, filters, and crop support. The Video editing supports all formats, including video in 4K at 60 fps and slo-mo in 1080p at 240 fps. And the video edits are nondestructive so you can remove effects like filters or undo trims.

19.) Mail App Enhancements

The Mail app now has multicolored flags, the ability to block sends, an extended reply menu, the ability to mute threads, a new format bar, desktop-class text formatting, an updated photo selector, and updated address autocomplete.

20.) Maps Get Rebuilt From The Ground Up

Apple has rebuilt the Maps app from the ground up. The brand new Maps app features significantly improved and realistic details for roads, beaches, parks, buildings, etc.

There is a new Look Around feature where you can explore where you are going before you get there with an immersive 3D experience to gain a 360-degree view of a place. And you can enjoy smooth and seamless transitions as you move the map around. This feature competes against Google Street View.

With Maps, you can build collections of your favorites and share it with your friends and family. There is a Junction View that helps drivers in China eliminate wrong turns and directional misses by lining it up in the correct lane before turning or entering an elevated road.

And with the Maps app, you can share your ETA with your family, friends, and coworkers. Plus there are up-to-the-moment information about your flight status with details about the terminals, gate locations, departure times, etc.

21.) Music App Helps You Sing With The Music

The Music app has been updated with time-synced lyrics. Each line of the lyrics will appear in step with the music so you know where you are and what is coming next. And you can scroll and tap any line to jump to your favorite verse.

And with one tap, you can see the queue of songs playing next and the playlist, album, or station it’s playing from. This way you will always know what song is coming up and you can change the order easily.

22.) New Memoji And Messages Features

With iOS 13, you can share your name and photo when you start a conversation or when the other person responds in a message. From there, you can decide whether to share with everyone, just your contacts, or not at all. Plus you can choose to use an Animoji, image, or monogram for your photo.

You can automatically generate sticker packs based on your Memoji and Animoji characters that allow you to express a range of emotions in Messages.

The Search in Messages now makes it easier to find what you are looking for. Before you type a character, you can see recent messages, people, photos, links, and locations. And then when you type a search, Messages categorizes the results and highlights matching the terms.

There are improved Memoji customization features. For example, makeup allows you to customize blush and eyeshadow and it includes editing tools that makes it easy to get the right look. And you can customize your teeth with braces and add piercings to the nose, eyebrows, eyelids, and around the mouth. Plus there are 30 new hairstyles, over 15 new pieces of headwear, and more earrings and glasses.

Plus Apple added 3 new Animoji characters including a mouse, an octopus, and a cow.

23.) New Notes App Features

The Notes app features has a gallery view, additional checklist options, and shared folders. The Notes feature now lets you see notes as visual thumbnails thus making it easier to quickly find the note you are looking for. There are Shared folders so you can collaborate with other people by giving them access to a folder’s contents where they can add their own notes, attachments, or subfolders. And there are new checklist options so you can quickly reorder checklist items using drag and drop, swipe to indent them, or move checked items to the bottom of the list automatically.

24.) New Reminders App Feature

Apple has redesigned the Reminders app with more ways to create, organize, and keep track of reminders. For example, there is a new quick toolbar above the keyboard that makes it easier to add dates, times, locations, flags, and attachments to the reminders. And Siri will suggest reminders when you are chatting with people in Messages.

To keep reminders even more organized, there are subtasks and grouped lists that can be added. You simply drag-and-drop to add subtasks under a single reminder. And you can group multiple lists together.

The smart lists feature allows you to keep track of your upcoming reminders with smart lists that automatically organize and display them. And you can see just your reminders scheduled for today, the reminders flagged as important, or all of your reminders across every list in one place.

Plus you can tag someone in a reminder and the next time you are chatting with that person in Messages. And a reminder will surface then and there.

You can customize the appearance of your personal or shared iCloud lists. There are 12 colors and 60 expressive symbols to choose from.

25.) New Shortcuts Features

Apple iOS 13 has made shortcuts more powerful by enabling you to interact with your apps in conversational ways. And the Shortcuts app is now built in and home for all your shortcuts. Plus you can set up triggers to run any shortcut automatically.

26.) Optimized Battery Charging

There is a new option that helps slow the rate of battery aging by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. And the iPhone uses on-device machine learning to understand your daily charging routine so it can wait to finish charging past 80% until you need to use it.

27.) Performance Improvements

Apple iOS 13 makes apps launch up to 2x faster. And Face ID unlocks 30% faster on the iPhone X, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Plus apps from the App Store will be packaged in a new way that makes them up to 50% smaller. And app updates will be up to 60% smaller on average.

Now when you read a book while waiting for coffee or listen to an audiobook for five minutes during your commute, you can build streaks to celebrate your achievements. And you can share books once you have finish with the “Books Read this Year” collection.

29.) Safari Personalization Features

Safari has been updated with a new start page. The new start page includes favorites, frequently visited, and most recently visited websites so you are able to quickly get to the site that you want. And Siri suggestions surface relevant websites in your browsing history, frequently visited sites, the links sent to you in Messages, etc.

Plus Safari has a download manager so you can check the status of a file you’re downloading, access downloaded files quickly, and drag and drop them into a file or email you are working on. And you can download files in the background while you get work done.

You can adjust the settings on a per-site basis. For example, you can choose to enable the camera, microphone, and location access depending on the website you are visiting. And you can decide whether to show the desktop or mobile version of that site or have Reader view automatically activated.

30.) Sign In With Apple

Apple has rolled out a new authentication feature called “Sign in with Apple.” This feature allows you to sign in to apps and websites quickly and easily using the Apple ID. When you tap “Sign in with Apple,” then you can verify your identity with Face ID or Touch ID.

Apple does not track or profile you when you sign in with Apple. And the most information you will have to share with an app or website is your name and email address.

If you hide your email address with specific apps by having Apple create a unique email address that forwards to your real address.

31.) Silence Unknown Callers

There is a new setting that allows you to block unknown and spam callers. This feature is controlled under Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers.

This feature allow calls to ring your phone from numbers in Contacts, Mail, and Messages. And all other calls are automatically sent to voicemail.

32.) Siri Sounds More Natural

The Apple Siri digital assistant now sounds more natural as it can speak longer phrases. And Siri offers personalized suggestions in Apple Podcasts, Safari, and Maps. Plus Siri can detect reminders in messages and events in third-party apps.

Some of the smaller enhancements added to Siri include SiriKit for Audio, the ability for Siri to tune in to your favorite radio station, and a new Indian English voice.
