  • Amazon has rebranded PillPack to “PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy,” which is a slight change from “PillPack, an Amazon company.”

Last year, Amazon acquired online pharmacy delivery service PillPack for nearly $1 billion. And now the logo has been updated to “PillPack by Amazon Pharmacy,” according to CNBC. This is a slight change from “PillPack, an Amazon company.” This is the first time that the “Amazon Pharmacy” brand was revealed.

PillPack customers are going to be notified with new labels and printed materials that refer to Amazon Pharmacy in the coming weeks. And CNBC’s sources also said that PillPack CEO TJ Parker was also recently promoted to a vice president position at Amazon.

The PillPack service is known for fulfilling multiple prescriptions and sending it to customers in packages by mail with the timings in which the medicines should be taken. There is speculation that Amazon could move beyond supplying medicines by mail. Or Amazon may add pharmacies to its retail stores like Amazon Go or Whole Foods.

PillPack has also filed paperwork that adds “Amazon Pharmacy” to the licensed name at its pharmacy fulfillment centers in New York, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and New Hampshire. And PillPack also updated its help center website with the new branding. There will not be any service changes for existing or new customers.

The promotion of TJ Parker also reportedly happened over the summer. Parker is a pharmacist by training and has expertise in branding. Generally, Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is consulted about VP promotions.

Parker was previously reporting to Amazon vice president Nader Kabbani and now he is reporting to Doug Herrington, SVP of North America Consumer at Amazon. And Parker is continuing to head up PillPack within Amazon.

After Amazon acquired PillPack, the online pharmacy delivery service talked to insurance companies in order to set up contracting deals. And over the last few months, PillPack made additional hires and now it has dozens of job openings at its offices, including a pharmacy in Seattle, Washington.
