The Galaxy S10e is part of Samsung’s flagship smartphone line for 2019. If you are shopping around for an Android-based smartphone, then this guide will help you quickly review the Samsung Galaxy S10e pros and cons.
Pulse 2.0 Score: 4 out of 5 Stars
The Samsung Galaxy S10e has received a Pulse 2.0 Score of 4 out of 5 stars. The reason why the score was on the higher end is due to the lower price, high-quality camera, and impressive specifications.
Pro: Lower Price
The Galaxy S10e has a starting price of $749.99, which is $150 less than the Galaxy S10 and $250 less than the Galaxy S10+. And it makes the Galaxy S10e competitive against the Apple iPhone XR.
Pro: High-Quality Edge-To-Edge Display
The Samsung Galaxy S10e has a gorgeous 5.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with minimum bezels thus making it edge-to-edge. With a 5.8-inch display, it makes the Galaxy S10e the smallest variant of the Galaxy S10 line compared to the Galaxy S10 (6.1-inch) and the Galaxy S10+ (6.4-inch).
To avoid using a notch, Samsung relocated the front-facing camera to a small “punch-hole” built into the screen. I believe this is a great way to make the display even more immersive.
And the display has an HDR10+ specification, which is a video format that dynamically adjusts brightness levels on a scene-by-screen and frame-by-frame basis. This drastically improves the gaming and video viewing experience.
Pro: Elegant Design
The Samsung Galaxy S10e features a premium glass and aluminum design, which is a pleasant surprise considering the lower price point.
Pro: High-End Cameras
On the back of the Galaxy S10e is a dual-lens camera. The dual-lens array features a wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide camera.
The Live Focus feature allows you to blur the background. And you can adjust the blur intensity once the photo is taken. There are blur filters like artistic, spin, zoom, and color point.
And the bump housing the rear camera is not that big, which is also impressive. Many other smartphones this year have larger-sized bumps to house the rear cameras.
Pro: 3.5mm Headphone Jack Is Available
Like the Galaxy S10, the Galaxy S10e has a headphone jack. This is great news for those of you who prefer to use wired headphones.
Pro: IP68 Rating
The Galaxy S10e has an IP68 rating, which means it is resistant to dust, dirt, and sand. And it is resistant to submersion up to a maximum depth of 1.5 meters underwater for up to thirty minutes.
Pro: Side-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor
Given the lower price, Samsung had to integrate the fingerprint sensor on the side of the S10e rather than adding an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into the display like the other versions of the S10 has.
I’m glad that Samsung integrated the sensor into the side rather than the front of the device. This feels natural to the thumb and you can use the fingerprint sensor to swipe down notifications.
Pro: Wireless PowerShare
The Samsung Galaxy S10 feature has Wireless PowerShare. The Wireless PowerShare feature allows you to use the back of the Galaxy S10e to charge another Qi-compatible device. However, PowerShare does not work when the phone battery life is under 30%.
Pro: Powerful Internal Components
Depending on your location, the Galaxy S10e either has a Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 chipset. And pairing it with the 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage or the 8GB RAM with internal storage makes apps with high-quality graphics feel lightning fast.
Pro: Expandable Storage
The Galaxy S10e has two storage options: 128GB and 512GB. However, you can expand the storage using a microSD card. In terms of expandable storage, the Galaxy S10e single SIM model supports one Nano SIM and one MicroSD slot (up to 512GB) and the Dual SIM model (Hybrid SIM slot) features one Nano SIM and one Nano SIM or one MicroSD slot (up to 512GB)
Con: Lower Battery Life
The Galaxy S10e has a lower battery life compared to the other versions of the Galaxy S10. The S10e has a 3100 mAh battery capacity compared to 3400 mAh with the Galaxy S10 and 4100 mAh with the Galaxy S10+.
